Sanofi gets EU okay on Plavix loading dose tablet
Wed, Mar 05 02:21 AM EST

PARIS, March 5 (Reuters) - The European Medicines Agency has recommended the 300 milligramme tablet of Sanofi-Aventis's (SASY.PA) blood thinning drug Plavix, the French drugs group and U.S. partner Bristol-Myers (BMY.N) said on Wednesday.

"This positive opinion from the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Evaluation Agency (EMEA) needs to be ratified by the European Commission in the coming months before final approval," Sanofi said in a statement.

Recommendations for marketing approval by the CHMP are normally endorsed by the EU Commission within a couple of months.

The new 300 mg tablet will facilitate the use of the approved loading dose of Plavix -- one of the world's best-selling medicines -- Sanofi said.
